English Department

In the English language programs, the four-language skills of students are strengthened first. The Students’ knowledge and performance in listening, speaking, reading, and writing is deepened with up-to-date exercises, in order to prepare them for theoretical and practical expertise. In English Literature program, students become acquainted with different forms of literature by taking specialized courses in short story, play, and poetry. They read mythology. They learn about the history of English literature, especially of United Kingdom and United States. They learn literary schools and various approaches to criticism. In Teaching program, they get acquainted with several ways in teaching English. They learn about the principles and methods of teaching foreign language skills and practically apply them. They read linguistics, sociology, and psychology. They learn how to formulate content and how to test them. Students in Translation program, on the one hand, get familiar with the tenets, methods, and principals of translation and the structure of the Persian language in a comparative analysis with English language, and on the other hand, practice translate, in written and oral form for Islamic works, literary, economic, political, press, and documentary texts and movie translation.

In addition to preserving the quality of education and performing innovative and top-rank research activities, this department, in cooperation with Student Association, with an emphasis on their unique identity, provides an English environment where students, on the one hand, can flourish their talents and, on the other hand, due to the specific situation of Kashan in tourism, interact with themselves and others. They are educated to be fluent, committed and expert, self-confident and self-perpetuating, critically active in national and international level.

Graduates of the trinary of English Language and Literature can be particularly high-skilled experts in public and private centers. With regard to bilingual attitude, language knowledge, and acquired skills, English language graduates can be useful in many other scientific fields. On the one hand, they will be able to introduce their culture and civilization, thought, and on the other hand, for example, they will work in the field of Occidentalism or receive the knowledge and science of the day and transfer it to others.

English Department, in addition to providing general language courses for all students of other programs, conducts language tests, provides its scientific and specialized services in research, education, and translation to other departments and faculties of this university. The professors and students of the department, using their various communication methods, are ready to participate actively in the internationalization of the university, by introducing the their culture as well as the unique attractions and characteristics of the university and the city of Kashan.
